James King

Anchor/Reporter/Sports
James King is the Sports Director at KFOX 14 in El Paso, Texas. He is also a fill-in Anchor and Reporter at the station. James was born in Richmond Va. and raised in Spotsylvania County, while growing up in the Northern Virginia/DC suburb of Fredericksburg. After graduating from Ohio State University, James spent two years in northeast Missouri and southeast Iowa at KTVO-TV. There he covered sports from 30+ high schools and a few colleges in the area. He then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to report on everything from local news, to sports and sometimes weather for ABC affiliate KTUL-TV.
James says “sports shaped me as a person, just as I know it did for so many others. So having the opportunity to work in a field that I love is one that I don't take lightly. Whether it's covering a national championship caliber football team or a local high school team that lost a teammate in a devastating car accident.”
James says he looks for that same vitality in telling sports stories, whether through tragedy or triumph, he looks for hope. Because hope is what sports can bring, even when everything around it can be so dark.
As James transitioned from sports to the news, he learned that news is also what drives people. Despite the hardships we face, like the COVID-19 pandemic, where can we find triumph. From breaking news, to covering the aftermath of tornadoes hitting Eastern Oklahoma, to the last survivors of the Tulsa Race Massacre fighting to have the city at least acknowledge what they went through.
It’s through this lens that James uses to not only look to tell impactful stories, but also how he looks to live his everyday life.
When King is not in front of a camera, you’ll most likely find him bouncing from golf course to golf course in the area working on his below average game.
