Cassidy is one of those people you meet and never forget. When you hear the story behind the woman, interesting doesn't even begin to describe her. Captivating and compelling is a good start. What do you say about a woman who was raised in what many would term a "cult", has lived all over the world and like Tiger Woods has a hard time checking the box marked ethnicity!!!! So, let me try to tell you just a little about Ms. Arkin.
She was born to parents who were residents of Synanon, a one-thousand member utopian community that had been organized around the principals of Ralph Waldo Emerson. In this kibbutz-style setting, Cassidy was raised with fourteen brothers and sisters, fraternal twins in her immediate age group. In this setting there was no color or gender distinction. Children were recognized and nurtured purely for their human potential to flourish as young individuals. It was a foundation she still looks back with fondness. She doesn't distinguish what was good or bad about her experience in Synanon. It was all she knew as a child and however you choose to qualify it, it produced a remarkable young woman. It's a distinguishing fact of her life and one she embraces.
She is the ultimate example of being multiracial. She describes herself as a Norwefrican (Norwegian and African-American), with ties to Jewish cultures. Cassidy has traveled the world. At the age of 14 she traveled to the Soviet Union. Since then she has also traveled and worked in Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, England, Brazil and Morocco.
Cassidy has spent over 10 years in television. She worked for several New York media outlets including MTV, VH1, ABC, MTV2, Oxygen Media, Heritage Networks, Al Roker Productions and most recently, BET and now CBS. She's worked in all phases of production, producing, developing, and working in front of the camera. She currently has her hand in many different film and development projects. But, the one near and dear to her heart, is her own documentary and book - "Little Brown Girl". This is a project we are working closely with Cassidy to ensure the story is told. Stay tuned to Cassidy's page to see when this project is ready for release.
